AlphaPlus’ Board of Directors seeks applications from individuals from the Francophone community interested in volunteering their time and expertise as a member of the Board.
Specifically, we are interested in individuals with competencies in some of the following areas:
- Adult Literacy
- Finance
- Human Resources
- Negotiations
- Government Relations
- Volunteer Work
- Sectoral knowledge of the Francophone Community
Responsibilities:
- Attendance at 4 or 5 Board meetings each year in Toronto
- Membership on one of the committees (Some meetings might be online or by phone)
- Ensuring that goals, mission, policies and strategic priorities of the organization are relevant and current
- Representing AlphaPlus and its policies to the communities
- Providing advice and council to the Board and/or organization as required
All reasonable travel costs related to participation on the Board are covered.
The term is three years.

WHO WE ARE
AlphaPlus has a proven track record of informing, supporting and inspiring the use of technology in adult education. We provide training, services, tools, information and resources to adult literacy agencies and educators in Ontario and Canada, serving adult learners in the Deaf, Native, Francophone and Anglophone literacy streams.

WHAT WE DO
Training and Professional Development
- Support literacy providers in the use of Learning Management Systems (like Moodle)
- Deliver online professional development workshops to educators across Ontario (e.g. training in internet skills and integrating web tools into practice)
- Deliver professional development webinars and online-information sessions in support of e-learning
- Model online courses for service providers preparing learners for their transition to e-learning
- Create teaching/learning materials on the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework’s ‘Use Digital Technology’ competency.
Support
- Work with innovative organizations on tools to assess organizational technology capacity
- Assist in the development of assessment practices for literacy providers in Ontario
- Support community based agencies by providing tools and resources to integrate Moodle into adult literacy programs
- Support online training for Deaf/Deaf-blind community based agencies
- Provide support, information and learning technology tools and hosting to Employment Ontario service providers.
Information Resources
- Create online catalogues of resources on all aspects of adult basic education and literacy from provincial, national and international sources
- Web postings on how to use blended training instruction, including digital technology that match learners’ needs and goals
- Monthly e-newsletter featuring information on digital technology tools, services and resources
- Publish information provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities relevant to the Literacy Basic Skills Sector
- Maintain a searchable database of projects funded by Employment Ontario and the Office of Literacy and Essential Skills
- Web site postings, including the AlphaPlus blog, news, and tech podcasts featuring information on e-learning, digital literacy and educational technology tools.
Research
- Conduct international research and review key findings relevant to the Ontario Literacy Curriculum Framework training delivery model
- Conduct international research, review and promote key findings relevant to the role of IT in implementing performance management systems and adult training service delivery
- Research, review and promote key findings from international research relevant to e-learning and blended learning in adult literacy and basic education
- Support research and promote best practices in the innovative use of technology, research design and information dissemination
- Publish research reports relevant to adult education, digital literacy and e-learning.
Consultation
- Provide support/consultation via our “Just Ask” program available on the AlphaPlus website
- Provide technical support on the use of IT to implement performance management procedures and practices
- Support service providers to address technology issues and IT capacity issues which may impact on the quality of their service
- Support service providers with strategies to implement best practices in e-learning, blended learning and digital skills training
- Support Research and Development projects to make effective use of digital and information technology
- Provide support to assess the IT capacity of agencies to implement the digital technology dependent components of the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework.
Hosting
- Host Demonstrations Ontario Web site until a migration of the site and content to a new agency.
